Welcome ladies and gentlemen to another edition of Cover Wars where to covers ramble against one another. During Cover Wars you might find yourself wondering, was the book cover makeover really necessary? Which one do I prefer? Is this cover really telling me something about the book’s story? And if I were to see that in a bookshelf would I pick it up?
This week’s contenders come from the mind of Cindy C. Bennett’s and her book Geek Girl, lets first take a look at the book blurb shall we?
"Think I can turn that boy bad?" 17-year-old Jen turns her life upside down when, out of boredom, she makes a bet that she can turn school geek Trevor into someone like her. Instead, the goth girl finds herself sucked into his world of sci-fi movies, charity work, and even-ugh!-bowling. To truly belong with him-and with her new foster family-she must first come to terms with her violent past.
Now that we are all in the same page, shall we take a look at this week’s contenders??
First we have the original cover with goth girl how thought she was doing the makeover:
On the other corner we have the artsy looking, confident fairing goth:
When I look at both this covers I can’t help but to like more the artsy looking cover, yes guys this time I am cheering for the makeover cover, it’s just that the girl in the original cover looks so sad, not bored as we are led to believe by the book description.
The girl in the second cover looks more confident, it is easier for me to believe that she would take on this kind of dare, that she would experience the “sci-fi movies, charity work, and even bowling”.
I know we are also talking about a character with a violent past, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a certain amount of confidence nor the type of personality necessary to get herself mixed up in this kind of situation.
Based on the book blurb I would pick up the second cover out of the shelf any day of the week. What about you guys?? Which cover would have you reading this book?? Which one do you prefer? Or feel it fits the description better, please let us know.
